About Us

1st Woodend Scout Group was formed in May 1975 when the Charfield and Cromhall Scout Groups merged together. Our Headquarters are in Cromhall but are very lucky to have a summer venue that we use at Avening Green. Cromhall is a small, rural village just off junction 14 of the M5 between Gloucester and Bristol. The Group draws its membership from a wide geographical area around the Charfield and Cromhall villages.

This year the group is 50 years old! We celebrated this by holding a camp for all of our section members and their leaders at Woodhouse Park Activity Centre on 12-14 September 2025.

The young people made bunting and paper chains to decorate our accommodation at Woodhouse Park, these have now been relocated to the Cromhall HQ.

We also held a kneckie badge competition with prizes for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd winners. The winning badge was designed by Isabelle Kirk (Scout), we have been given permission to wear this badge on our kneckie for the next year.

On the Saturday night evening we invited previous leaders and members of the Executive Committee to join us for a catchup, food and entertainment provided by our campers. Each section provided a campfire sketch and song. We also celebrated with a big 50th birthday cake!

The camp ended on the Sunday morning for the campers after they completed their exciting activities of Aerial Trek, Climbing and/or Low Ropes. Their parents and siblings were all invited to attend lunch followed by our AGM. A number of awards were presented to the young people along with the ‘Best Scouter of the Year’. Well done to all!

See our EVENTS page for the latest information on what we are doing in the near future.
